Reporting System Increases Transparency

The presence of a reporting guide or whistle blowing system for reporting violations will assist in the development of transparency. This system can also provide witness protection.

Although managing the handling of reports is just the first step, this system is believed to positively impact upon corruption prevention. This is important as previously, especially in the government sector, the role of inspectorates have been ineffective, especially in reporting the suspicion of funds misappropriated to institutions.

Therefore future systems that encourage complaints from non-institutional sources are worthy of support. This point was voiced by Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Vice Chairman, Haryono Umar, Monday (10/11) in Jakarta.

Haryono believes that the system launched by the National Governance Commission has had a positive impact on the good governance program. “This system can assist in developing transparent access to information, such as prices, times, conditions, and reports, when someone reports a potential violation,” Haryono said.

The coordinator of the team responsible for compiling the reporting system guide, Yunus Husein, said that this guide is effective to prevent corruption. The reason for this is that this guide guards against and actively fights practices that oppose good governance principles.

This effectiveness, he continued, can be seen in a the short and long terms as the guide encourages changes in business attitudes and practices. Positive change can be expected as the system has the potential to become part of the internal management of organizations.

A member of the Witness and Victim Protection Organization (LPSK), I Ktut Sudiharsa, expressed his support for this reporting system. LPSK even offered their assistance in guaranteeing the protection of whistle blowers.
