KPK and the FBI Collaborate to Eradicate Corruption

Jakarta, 18 November 2008. In order to maximize corruption eradication efforts, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) actively seeks partnerships with a variety of organizations within Indonesia and abroad. On this occasion, KPK established a collaborative partnership with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was conducted by KPK Chairman Antasari Azhar and FBI Vice Director, John Pistole on Tuesday, 18 November 2008 at KPK's Office, Jl. HR Rasuna Said, Kavling C-1, Kuningan, South Jakarta.

The MoU represents a strong desire by both parties to strengthen the existing collaboration between KPK and the FBI and to cooperate in matters relating to corruption eradication in both Indonesia and the United States.

The agreement included sharing information of mutual interest, developing and implementing corruption eradication programs, exchanging information and experiences relating to the management of corruption cases and modus operandi, organizing joint exercises and training, exchanging expertise in intelligence and investigation matters and providing technical guidance in a variety of operational activities.

“The ratification of this MoU symbolizes an important partnership between KPK and the FBI as allies in the global war against corruption. The mutual support and assistance embodied in this agreement will aid in the development of legal systems in Indonesia and America,” said Antasari Azhar.

The FBI are a law enforcement agency in the United States that fights against public corruption on a number of levels. One the FBI's primary tasks is to deal with white collar crime.

Forming bilateral and multilateral agreements in order to eradicate corruption is one of the authorities of KPK in the area of prevention as stipulated in Law 30/2002 on corruption eradication.
